AUDL Game UI Concept

Game UI & Player Statistics
Project Overview
In 2022, the AUDL (now UFA) set up a Kickstarter for the first-ever Ultimate Frisbee video game. The game was prototyped but never released.

My Contributions
In no relation to the UFA, nor the Kickstarter, I still felt that it was a fun concept to create a FIFA-like UI to bring the game to life in my own way.

I created a few menu screens as well as some player selections and statistic visualizations to make the UI cohesive for a potential player.

  • UI Design
  • Graphic Design
While creating screens, I met challenges such as color hierarchy, controller navigation, information placement, and content relevancy.

I set out to make content blocks that were easily navigable by thumbstick, keyboard or gamepad and create a color family that extended the AUDL brand in my vision.
UI Design
I wanted to create some specific UI that held meaning to players. This is a new concept for Ultimate in general, not just for the AUDL. There are no trading cards or player history and there is hardly any stat keeping on a league level.

Creating player badges can give game players a reference to in-game characters, even if they are unfamiliar to Ultimate as a sport. This can give first-time players needed information about their game state, and long-time Ultiamte fanatics an upper hand with the knowledge they have about the sport.

The Badges included:
  • Position abbreviation
  • Plus/Minus in position
  • Player number
  • Team logo
  • Player nationality
  • Branded team background and texture
  • Player action photo
  • Player last name
Player Badges
With the growing need for stats in sports, it felt necessary to include in-match statistics as well as player metrics within the player experience. On-field personnel substitute often in Ultimate and the active video game player acts as the player manager for the team. They must make conscious decisions about substitutions for both offense and defense to chase every score.
Statistics
I did not create the game footage.
